Waddling up to a hole in the ice, a penguin that looks like it's made out of thin cardboard dips a toe into the icy water to test the temperature in an adorable new ident for TV channel Animal Planet, created by London-based Double G Studios -

The penguin and its icy domain are one of four miniature worlds featured in new idents to mark the 2012 launch of the Animal Planet HD simulcast.

Once the four environments were designed in CINEMA 4D, Double G Studios worked closely with award-winning animation studio Blue Zoo, also based in London, who modeled and animated the animals using Autodesk Maya. The character animation was baked then imported into the environments in CINEMA 4D.

"We're constantly astonished how versatile CINEMA 4D is. We got exactly the look we were after," said Grant Gilbert, Creative Director and owner of Double G Studios.
